Kati Suominen, is CEO of Nextrade Group LLC, a consulting firm on leading-edge issues in world trade, adjunct professor at UCLA and adjunct fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a leading think tank.
Suominen has deep expertise in international trade, economics and finance. In 2010-12, she was awarded a fellowship in the Economics Program of the German Marshall Fund of the United States. In 2004-2010, she served as International Trade Economist at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington. She has recently worked with such leading institutions as the Peterson Institute for International Economics, Brookings Institution, Carana Corp., USAID and AusAID. At CSIS, she is currently leading an eBay-sponsored project to catalyze U.S. online SME exporters and expand the digital economy across emerging markets. She is also the chair of a 25-member global expert committee on regional trade agreements for the E15 Initiative convened by the International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and World Economic Forum and the idea woman behind the "RTA Exchange," a new global clearinghouse and dialogue forum on free trade agreements. Suominen has authored some 70 articles and published nine books on trade and economics and is authoring her tenth on the future of trade. She has spoken in 20 countries and at such venues as the World Trade Organization, U.S. Department of Commerce, International Monetary Fund, World Bank, United Nations and Asian Development Bank. Suominen is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania; a Ph.D. in political economy and international affairs from the University of California, San Diego; an M.A. in international relations from Boston University; and a B.A. in political science and international relations from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. |
